You've got heavy metal ("Helter Skelter"), country ("Rocky Raccoon"), straight up blues-rock ("Revolution 1"), psychedelia ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps"), campy-British music hall ("Honey Pie"), and a bizarre collage of sounds in "Revolution 9". Being a double album, it of course has lots of great songs, but also a lot of forgettable ones. Still, a classic in every sense of the word. It also contains Ringo Starr's first songwriting contribution with the cute "Don't Pass Me By". Songs like "Across The Universe" and "The Long And Winding Road" are all excellent in the songwriting department, but fucking Phil sucked all the magic out. Don't worry Beatles, it's not your fault.... This re-release rectifies pretty much all of the problems the original had, with Spector's production being entirely stripped away, creating a much more raw rock n' roll sound.
