Alice In Chains-Dirt (1992)     Columbia Records

1-Them Bones (2:30)  2-Dam That River (3:09)  3-Rain When I Die (6:01)  4-Down In A Hole (5:38)  5-Sickman (5:30)  6-Rooster (6:15)  7-Junkhead (5:09)  8-Dirt (5:16)  9-God Smack (3:50)  10-Iron Gland (0:30)  11-Hate To Feel (5:16)  12-Angry Chair (4:47)  13-Would? (3:18)

One of the great grunge albums. Lots of hits on this one, and a lot of my favorite AIC tracks like the morbid "Them Bones", the depressing "Rooster", and the brooding "Would?". The lesser known tracks aren't really all that memorable though, so it's pretty clear why those songs were the hits. Still, a good batch of sludgey grunge with a metal flavor to it.

Favorite Tracks: Them Bones, Rooster, Angry Chair, Would?

Alice In Chains-Black Gives Way To Blue (2009)       Virgin/EMI Records

1-All Secrets Known (4:42)  2-Check My Brain (3:57)  3-Last Of My Kind (5:52)  4-Your Decision (4:43)  5-A Looking In View (7:06)  6-When The Sun Rose Again (4:00)  7-Acid Bubble (6:55)  8-Lesson Learned (4:16)  9-Take Her Out (4:00)  10-Private Hell (5:38)  11-Black Gives Way To Blue (3:03)

Alice In Chains in 2009 isn't that much different than Alice In Chains in 1990. This is their first album since the tragic death of Layne Staley, and new vocalist William DuVall steps up to the plate and fills his shoes nicely (even though his voice is overpowered by guitarist Jerry Cantrell's). This album should satisty any fan of both grunge and metal. Very dark and depressing stuff, but is still pretty darn heavy. The title track features some good piano work by Elton John.

Favorite Tracks: Check My Brain, A Looking In View, When The Sun Rose Again, Black Gives Way To Blue

One of the forerunners of the grunge movement and certainly one of the best, Alice In Chains fused a doom-metal sound with the dark and dingy elements of grunge to create a sound that appealed to both metalheads and angsty teenagers.
